Lower turret problems

Company bought a Mazak with no clue how to run .
My problem is I am trying to move lower turret closer to the spindle so that I can machine small parts .
Right now I can only get within 12 inches of the spindle .
Any Ideas ?? :confused:

Is it stopping with a soft limit alarm or a machine interference alarm? What machine model and control?

Sounds like chuck barrier interference to me. First: Test again with barrier cancel on. If that helps:
Put tools in all your holders. Preferably short ones. Measure up all your tooling. That way you have eliminated old tool data for some very long tools. If that doesn't work: Go into the parameters and adjust values for chuck and/or tool holders.
