max spindle per tool
Hi, i have a mazak qt18n. mazatrol t-32b control, the question i have is... Is there a way to change the max spindle speed per tool while keeping it only one program? thanks
-
Yes. For each operation you specify a surface velocity (someone correct me if my terminology is wrong) for that operation and tool. You have one for roughing and one for finishing.. by changing these #'s, you change your spindle speed.
That's a pretty rough description I think... maybe someone else can chime in.

Not possible, max spindle rpm can only be only be set in the first line of the program.

Any chance of a reason why u need that?

I know of only two ways to set max spindle speeds.
1. At the begining like you're doing.
2. For the cut off ONLY you can (on our QT100 w/640T control) set parameter U54

I believe Tom is correct in that you can set your velocities for each process (also roughing and finishing within that process). It is usually a way lower number than you would think to get it set. That is how I do it anyway.

I might very well have misunderstood. I do that a lot.
I thought he was trying to set a maximum RPM. He, of course, sets his SFM for each process. I've often wanted to set different max RPMs to, for example, keep the SFM up to where it needs to be for larger features/diameters but reduce it to minimize whip or vibration for other features in the same program.
Can you be more specific, Slothgsr?

Not to be a thread hijacker, but while we are on the topic, is there a simple way to set different spindle RPM limits for the main spindle and sub-spindle on a SQT15MS?
For example, I am turning 1 1/4 hex stainless with a 4 foor bar in the main spindle, so I am limited by vibration running it more than say 1500 RPM, but the operations on the sub could run at 3000 RPM.
Again, not trying to hijack, but it seems related.
