i wouldn't give up yet
anybody you give it to now is gonna put the outcome on you no mater what
to the wrong guy it's just a reason to get sloppy
so let mach muddle it some and see if there is another route
all that porta powering can usualy be recreated with threaded rod and some thinking
as far as the hydraulic assist
i can lone you one porta power if you pay the shipping
coming up with the apadters is possible too if someone knows what the threads are

remember
no one was hurt in the making of this adventure so far,
everthing works if you let it

No Fun

Sorry man, I didn’t mean to break your heart last night. It was getting late here when I saw that, 8.00 pm, so I wrote that in a mad hurry, cause I was trying to get home.

As Wippen said, no one got hurt. So its only nuts and bolts. It is all recoverable. The bearings are probably dirty, but they haven’t worked yet, so they will wash up.

The spindle is normally harder that that collar. Worst case, we make a new collar. That pretty easy. Putting 20 tons in to a precision assembly like that, is probably not a good thing. It was a vertical press, so I’d hope that hasn’t bent the spindle.

Right now you cant tell how much force is holding those bearings onto the shaft, is it 20 tons, or is the collar welded to the shaft and there left loose and with out preload.

I’m thinking you got to strip it down, and start afresh. You missed a few steps, before you put that together. This can be done with only one Enerpac pump, a deep oil cooker or a hot oven. I’ve done some dodgy things in the field / interstate, just with a cleaned up milling table, some clamps, all-thread, blocks etc, to get that collar to seat. Can you lay your hands on an Enerpac Pump? Even the H.F ones will get 10,000 psi if you stand on the handle.

My problem is time, we are snowed under, I’m out on site for the rest of the week, fitting the spindle I’ve been working on for the past week.

Why do you guys have to be so far away. It would be quicker to come and do it, than write about it. I’ve always wanted to see that Stevie Ray Vaughan statue, and Lazlo owes me a beer.

In the mean time, can you tell me the part number and manufacturer of those bearings. I’d expect 7212 or 7213’s

Regards Phil.

I haven't had the time to deal with this lately, nothing has changed since my last post. Thanks to both of you guys for the understanding. It's easy to get a little crazy when you're not sleeping that much and you think you've just massively screwed up your spindle. I appreciate all the help. I plan to go over your posts in the next few days and try to get this thing rolling.
