On my Mazak cybertech turn,4500 m,MT-pro,the ballscrew is vibrating bad in z axis. This only occurs when the turret rapids back toward the tailstock. When rapiding toward the chuck it sounds fine.
Could this be a backlash problem?

probly just thrust bearings

set up an indicator
in 1 thou per click on pulse wheel
if it takes more than 4 or 5 clicks to change directions you got something coming loose

Vibration in one direction, I'll agree with Whippin' Boy, he's usually right.

Had a little acuslide, no warning, ran Z- fine, coming back Z+ hopped the damn machine right off the floor. Powered it down, Z- turned fine, I could barely move the screw by hand in Z+, and when it did turn, it didn't feel pretty.
