Does anyone here use a laser CMM for first article inspection?

We just went through an AS9100D audit and F.A.I. is a huge deal. We've been just doing them by hand but this is very time consuming. I'm completely ignorant when it comes to this CMM stuff. I've been googling but not sure what I'm looking at or where to start. Any advice or experience with this would be greatly appreciated.

I dont specifically know about laser, (we use optics and conventional cmm), but it is very common to use this type of equipment for first article inspections. Often times a cmm cannot get at all dimensions needed, so the first article is done in stages, but as long as you can prove you measure it, and it passes, most customers dont care how you measure.
