I'm needing to measure several steps ranging from 7.090 +-.001 I.D. to 5.970 +-.001.

Now I'm quite new and still learning, but I'm wondering if there is a way other then using a holtest micrometer.

If not then I'll just have to break down and buy a set.

Thoughts, Idea's?

For taking a direct reading, a holtest of other internal mic is the way to go. In a general job shop environment, alot of internal bore readings will be done comparatively; with a dial bore gage.

As with all comparative gaging initial set up is key, and the better resolution in the setup, the more accurate the reading.@barbera

.0001" resolution Dial bore gauge that was calibrated to an OD mic that was set to standard. I bought a very nice mitutoyo on eBay for not a lot of money... If I need to go outside of the range of the included probes, I make my own. Use the OD mike or mating part as your comparative reference.
