Hello all,

I'm looking at picking up the 150mm (6") Digimatic from Mitutoyo and it comes with two flavours of depth bar, round and flat. My current vernier caliper has a flat bar, but was wondering if anyone has the round bar and if it makes any difference? Why the round one vs the flat one?

Also, thumb wheel? Yes No? Opinions?

Thanks,

The round depth rod is just a bit more handy but depends on what you'll use it for. The flat is sturdier.

Same with thumb roller. Some like some don't.

I use all types (round/flat depth rod and calipers with and without roller) frequently and have no particular preference. To be honest I just never think about it when using.

Had to Google Earth to find your location. Wow :)

I find thumb wheel useless, most often you will want to hold the base firmly with one hand on the reference feature and manipulate the rule with the other hand to touch the measured feature. One hand use will be unreliable as proper depth measurements rely on being aligned... square to reference surface, you wont maintain that one handed
