I have finally obtained my "holy grail" a Moore Universal Measuring Machine. Serial 176 from 1964.

They are very rare, and I am pleased to have finally purchased one.

I have found that their is VERY little on these devices online. I thought I would share pictures of the device (still needs to be cleaned up) AFAIK, these are the first and only decent pics of one of these online.

Beautiful!
It is basically Moore #3 jig borer with some extras. Now you need to find the matching rotary table Moore made for those machines.

Fantastic!! How many folks on the planet have one of those at home? As a kid I always wondered why no other kids in the neighborhood had lathes in their basements. You took that theme and blew it out of the water. Any ideas what it cost new either in 1964 dollars or today's dollars. We can find the conversion online between the two.

Stupid question time....

What does it do? Looks kinda like a jig bore.

I'll let the OP take the ball and run with it, but in a nutshell - it measures to millionths, and does it extremely accurately based on the actual fundamentals of the precision of the hardware.

Nate A2, is this one of the machines that was being shown in an earlier thread from the guy who had "All things Moore?"? That was quite a collection of stuff.

Specfab. No, its not one of his machines.

Frankly, that post really irritates me. He has posted his "AD" in the machinery for sale section, but is not actually selling anything. He states that his things WILL be for sale third quarter of this year.

Seems that, according to the rules in the marketplace, this is not prohibited. I do find it tacky though to have all these nice things, that clearly you intend to sell in the future, but not have prices, and not be taking offers.

It's really just pre-sale advertising. As far as I am concerned, if you are not taking offers or giving us prices, your stuff aint for sale.

"Looks nice.
What-will-you-do-with-it?
At your house?"

caress and fondle it regularly, make lewd comments and give it come hither looks.

Now that's really just porn for gear heads.:drool5: My best guess is that it that probably cost much more in 1964 than an average sized home. I've got the Moore books too, and they've certainly made me lust after anything built by Moore.

Pete
