Hi all

Just got my first gage block 1.0 inch. It does not show its size on the block as I`ve seen on other blocks. To clarify,
it does not show its true size to 4 places just that its 1 inch. Included with the block are the specs on the block.
I need help interpreting the data.

Grade AS-1 (ASME)
Nominal Length 1
Central Deviation + 2.4
Maximum Deviation +4.3
Minimum Deviation +1.6
Variation 2.7
Inspection method : by comparator

Regards barry

The deviations shown are in millionths of an inch from nominal dimension. The values can be plus or minus.

The actual measured values would not be inscribed on the block because they will change over its useful lifetime.

The actual values are given on a Certificate of Calibration, which is usually obtained annually from calibration labs like Starrett-Webber.

Just for some additional info, you can google a phrase such as "gage block tolerances" and come up with several sources of tolerance standards charts for the various classes of gage blocks.
