I have an old Wilson 3JR mechanical hardness tester that I use in my hobby for testing the hardness of knife blades.It has worked fine for years but suddenly stopped working. There is a plunger to which the diamond perpetrator is attached. This piece moves freely when there is no load applied but will not move when a lad is added. I have taken the whole penetrator portion apart and there does not appear to be any damage or debree on or in the plunger area. I am not a machinist as you can tell by my explanations. if any one can help that would be great.
