I acquired a Mitutoyo 116 Pana Mic with two sets of 60° thread anvils.

The C style are a full cone and the K style are blade shaped.

Other than personal preference, is there a reason for using one style over the other?

Under what conditions would one be preferable over the other?

The chisel types might wear a bit longer.

The Pana Mic, if I recall, lets both the spindle and anvil end freely rotate; so the chisel is an option.

When measureing a high hilux angle ie multistart threads the blade will have error so you use a cone or ball.

With a common thread the blade is easier to use.

I'm writing this on my own personal experience and not all have the same experience.

I'd prefer to use the K style as the C cone style tend to "wedge" regularly when measuring. Re the helix angle then the fact that the K style inserts can turn in the anvil and spindle micrometer holes is necessary as they do need to turn slightly when measuring.

Conical inserts are cheaper to make so they are by far more common.

Thanks for the responses.

I had thought about the high helix as a potential problem.

You responses reinforce the fact that the blade anvils were in the case and the cone set was still in the plastic dip and have not been used.

Again, thank you for the your replies.
