How are these bonded to the steel anvil?

I have never seen any signs of solder or brazing.

On one Mahr gage where a carbide insert came loose it looks like it was fitted with adhesive. Is this the common practice?

What adhesives are used?

i would think it was brazed with a electrical resistance welder and the brazing if foil is very thin but i am not a expert

If you're thinking of the 3-point micrometer style, they're pressed into a hole in the anvil, with only the top of the carbide sticking out.
Not sure if they're lapped or something in place afterwards, or if they have some way to guarantee accuracy when sticking it in.
