Default Monarch Series 80

We have a Monarch Series 80 Heavy Duty Tracer Lathe, that will not run
in reverse, it seems there is a problem in the switching valve on the hydraulic
pump unit under the main motor.
Does anyone have any idea how to fix/replace this unit.
Thanks,

The hydraulics on these lathe are tricky. I would call Monarch lathe, and see if they can suggest anything over the phone. They use to have a trouble shooting guide on these machines, and they should give you somethings to check out. Its worth the phone call at least.

Ran these and series 91. The manual will have a trouble shooting list to go over to help.Nice machines.

looks like one of the lathes from that textile auction a month ago.

You need to stop the lathe motor and then restart it to run reverse I believe.

We have had this lathe for several years. I took the valve on the pump apart and cleaned
the little slider valves and it worked for a while than quit again ! I thought maybe there would be a way to shim something up or something like that to make it work better ?

The hyd. parts in the dyna-shift headstocks on the Series 62, 80/81 and 90/91 were Monarch's invention. The made nearly everything including the valves and other control devices. Over time these items wear and need to be replaced. About the only way to get these parts is through Monarch Lathe or reverse engineer it or find a similar lathe being parted out. These are great lathes when they run, but can be very expensive to fix.

As I mentioned before, start with Monarch Lathe and see what help they can provid, and then go from there.
