when using antique machinery ,one gets used to paying attention to open gears ...... XCEPT on my monarch A .........,moving the coupling in front of the change gear box , w/ a gear right behind it ,w/ fingers , bothered me enuf so that i made a lever to move it in contact w/ the lead screw ...something that i think monarch figured out later that wud be desirable on the moel A ...just two pieces , two holes & one bolt..very simple & works well ....i need to take a pic & ask someone if they will post it for others that may be a tad trepeditious of getting so close to the moving gear ...what was interetsing is that my 1910 Reed ctalog shows a housing & knob to move the coupler ...some 8-10 yrs earlier....
