Default Rare Option for a 10ee??????

I may buy this machine from a friend ( 1946 vintage square dial ) as a parts machine to complete another lathe I have, how useful is this option?
Thanks,
John

Well that option and the one to the right of it are rather rare, how useful depends on what you are doing. I think for many it would be a novelty but, for that right individual it would be the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Would this be an asset in your endeavors?

Neat! I wish my machine had one. I wasn't even aware that was an option.

It could be handy at times, .005 tic's, the dial is at an angle so I can't read the last numbers. My carriage comes out at ~ .835 per rev. what does that dial end with? I've never seen that option either, looks to be cumlative as well. Nice.

My '57 square dial comes out ~0.8422" per rev according to the DRO, but I can't guarantee I moved the wheel exactly one revolution. The two measurements seem acceptably similar.

I would guess the main wheel is graduated for 1", and a secondary moving fiducial corrects for the odd range.
