Getting some new bearings for carriage and taper attachment and am faced with the 2RS / ZZ question (sealed or shielded) and wondering what the community thinks? I've got some thoughts / positives both ways like....ZZ less friction under minimal load (less sliding), but more possible influx of grit and with RS less influx of grit and need for lube but more drag or potential for sliding.

What say ye?

I would go with sealed, as long as the setup will allow adjusting of the bearing load to be high enough to ensure skidding can't occur. The additional drag from seal friction and preload should be minimal, just keeping the bearings at a consistent drag and maintaining clean surfaces when actually using the attachment will offset any minute extra load.

JMHO, of course.

thanks for the input Milland...I can't disagree.

for posterity....and future readers curious...bearings for the round dial are:
