Sydney Lathe on CL

Not really, no. Sidney lathes were rather good lathes in their own right.

Waaay back, there were design pioneers who's work influenced more than one machine tool builder, so there have been many exchanges of design philosophy.

Lathes are generally laid out the same basic way. They are expected to do much the same work. Operator's had to be able to reach and use controls.. and so on.

Some features here (HS gearcase) resemble a Large & Shapely Model A. And more than one OTHER lathe as well. Others, (motor extending rearward) resemble an Axelson. But not-only.

They'll all be a great deal more different, one from another, on the inside than on the outside.

Sydney, with two "y" BTW, is in Australia. Sidney, with one "y" is in Ohio.
