One of our 1998 okuma crown cnc lathes/ osp700l, and another that is a 1994 cadet cnc lathe/osp5020, both have similar problem. . At power off or estop, the x axis will drop, and drift down onto a hard stop, or wooden block if operator puts that in place. Quite some time ago okuma did a service call on the same issue. That one cost a new x axis motor.

Has anyone found a solution for this that doesn't require replacing the entire motor.

Is there an electric brake component, that is a serviceable item?

Update. Local independent service tech was out. The 1994 machine has the brake outside of the motor assy. There was a coupler that came loose. 1setscrew was out, another loose. Replaced and tightened.
Issue Resolved.

1998 machine has brake inside the motor assy. Apparently need to break apart motor to review. Will be sending out for review.

thanks for the update/ info.
I've got a 2000 machine that does that occasionally.
