Boeing purchases another autopilot option for their jets

This reminds me of a story I have heard.

"Good evening ladies and gentlemen, this is you pilot speaking.
This aircraft is totally automated, nothing can go wrong...wrong...wrong...wrong..."

About the only thing the robot can do that the flight director cannot is extend the gear and flaps. I think I'll take the truck on my next long trip. Regards, Clark

FWIW, Boeing just bought Aurora Flight Sciences for its autonomous aerospace vehicle technology. I'm pretty sure their real tech does not use a little industrial robot to make their drones and such work...

Had an engineer friend at Aurora for a while, did a tiny bit of work for him while he was there. Interesting company, will be curious about how Boeing uses their tech.

This will be great. They can lay off the pilots. With the savings they can pass on lower fares to the public. At least they will say that to regulators. What they will actualy do is give bonuses to the ceo and the stockholders while going up on fares.

When business is allowed to form near monopolies they prey on the public. Example, duke university health system bought up all the doctors and specialists. They added a hospital fee at most clinics and an efficiancy fee.

As one of the pilots, I hope this takes awhile. Just a week ago, deployed, I was coming in to land and heard this conversation between the tower controller and a drone operator..,
"callsign xx, this is tower. Report when clear of the runway. Traffic 3 miles out."
"Umm, Tower, callsign xx, we have lost link with our plane and don't know if it is on or off of the runway"
"Confirm you don't know where your plane is?"
"That is correct, we will have to drive out there and see where it is. The link just went down"
The technology is advancing rapidly, but I'm not sure it's ready for prime time quite yet.
