OT- Robots coming to McDonalds

dkmc

Diamond
McCNCDonalds

Haven't heard too much about this.
New McDonald's In Phoenix Run Entirely By Robots - News Examiner - Examine Your World

Still no actual video of the robots and/or the automation itself.
Should be interesting. Hopefully they will be able to program
the machinery so as the condiments get placed evenly around the bun, with pickles spaced out evenly +/-.010 instead of a gob or smear of mustard and 3 pickle slices in a clump 'somewhere' on the bun.
I also envision eventual precision even placement of sour cream on my Taco at Taco Belle. Not a gob at one end.

CNC food preparation by machines with training and intelligence. That never leave so they never have to 'not' show up. Order by customer input at a touch screen, instead of trying to hear the person behind the counter that looks half asleep and talks too quiet to be heard....even whey I say WHAT? I can't HEAR YOU. Never ordering cheesburgers at the drive thru only to find you got McChicken instead. And no burning hourly wages during slow periods of the day. What a concept.

WHY would McDonalds DO that to all the people protesting for the minimum wage increase??
Why do we have CNC machines instead of manual...

Well, it's sort of a "Back to the Future" moment, as I remember Automats in NYC during the early 60's. But at some point we will have to address the question of "what's the future of work?" when ALL the jobs are automated. Will we become a socialist utopia (not the pejorative socialism, but "real"), or will we have masses of angry rioters?

Or maybe a war or two to thin the herd?

I guess they would need to hire someone to put the food into the machines...

This is what all these crybabies get for demanding an increase in the minimum wage. There should be NO minimum wage.

We need to bring back indentured servitude too. And this whole slavery nonsense, who ever thought banning it was a good idea??

Why? So cheap-asses like you can pay employees $2 an hour and watch them starve? Gotta get those profits! Fuck these whiny employees! If they want more money they can save that $2 an hour and start a business just like I did! Or they can work three jobs! That's the problem with people these days, you know, they're just so damn lazy. :rolleyes5::rolleyes5::rolleyes5:

I didn't even know they made keyboards that giant assholes could type on. Boy, technology sure has come a long way.

So if this all comes to fruition, are we going to see help wanted ads from these folks for machine repairmen and toolmakers to fix the shit when it breaks?

Just trying to see the sunny side.:)

I see the drive through at Subway is already a robot interaction... bullshit.
Used to be a live worker taking the order...
So something is coming, incrementally at least.

Welcome to Practical Machinist. You will fit right in. :rolleyes5:

I guess it all depends on your viewpoint. Used to be, you wanted a foundation dug, you got 10 guys with shovels and wheelbarrows. Now it's one guy with a backhoe, and the other 9 are standing in front of Home Depot. Ten machinists at manual lathes, now it's one CNC. Ten guys on an assembly line, now it's one guy programming the robots. As long as it's somebody else, it's fine. But when it's me...

Yup, and it's just going to continue. This is a big part of the concentration of wealth that's been going on for the last half century or so, and explains the anger levels of large parts of the population. It has to be addressed somehow, history shows an angry rabble is a dangerous thing.
