Congrats Peter on your new purchase, I came so close to buying it myself but let the voice of reason talk me out of it, plus the fact that I dont actually have any room for it either!.......Let us know when she arrives safely and if it is as good as it looked in the pics.

In its size, was there ever a more enjoyable and useful lathe than the SAG 12? I predict you will really enjoy this machine - if all is ok with the gearbox. It is extremely well made and just fun to use!
Peter, by the way in case you haven't unloaded a SAG 12, there are holes in the base casting through which you can slide steel bars or heavy tubes, then sling the lathe - a very safe way of lifting it.

While I can't speak for the Sag 12, the Sag 14 has a pair of holes ("pockets?") right in front of the spindle in the bed. When I moved mine (chuck removed and tailstock all the way to the right), the thing BALANCED beautifully with a cable sling placed through these two holes. Also. center of gravity is BELOW this hoisting point, making it far less excitiing to lift.

Hello all
The machine arrived yesterday and was all I expected of it
I run it over and noticed the pressureswitch which checked the oilpump in the lower gearbox with all the clutches was broke
After blowing up a pressureswitch from a car I checked the pressure
That pressure was a astonishing 8 Atm =116PSI So I ordered a new one
BTW shipping the lathe was €135,- from England to Netherlands

I know there are freighters with contracts from the Netherlands to the UK that are very keen on transports back to the Netherlands. Since a year they mostly come home empty, so every cent they can get on retour loads is welcome.
135,-- will barely cover an hour loading, an hour unloading and some extra km's

Hello Yoyo
Loading/unloading is not a hobby for us
I do unload a machine like that in less than 15 minutes
But you are right England is very cheap shipping from

Nice score.
I agree that the 12 is one of the nicest lathes.
Enjoy.

Peter,
Many years ago I asked Graziano what the oil pressure should be in the speed-change gearbox, they replied 3-5 atms.
The factory switch cuts out the motor if the oil pressure is too low. One of the members on this forum found that the oil pump can be assembled incorrectly and give poor or no pressure. Check for those posts if you are interested.
Personally, I think I will delete the pressure switch and put a pressure gauge up on the consol so I can see what is happening.
