Hi guys, I'm looking for a little advice, input and info on the schaublin 70-80 the. I have the opportunity to pick one up, fully tooled with every accessory imaginable.

When I picked up my new lorch lathe, the fella had many high end European machines and this little schaublin caught my eye. But I do have some questions.

First off, is this lathe only useable with the turret? Or could I pick up a cross slide and standard tailstock for it?

Secondly, this IDs a 420v 3 phase machine. IDsthere Any way I could use a single phase in vfd to control it or would I need a phase converter? Or... Could I simply swap out the motor easily?

This machine comes with original cast iron stand and I don't recall where the motor was located on it. I will receive some photos in a day or two but until then I'm hoping you guys can help educate me?

Here's a couple photos of the tags on the machine

OK fellas, here are photos of the actual lathe. I'm sure this is worth a few bucks. If I can wire it to run in my garage in going to buy it. Maybe you can help identify some of the tools and parts in the messy bins?

The correct cross slide for this machine is pretty rare. When you do find them, pretty pricey:

Took me around ten years to find that one. Another approach would be to fit a habbeger slide, or
a slide from a 7" hardinge machine. I've never seen a standard schaublin 70 tailstock for sale.
They probably exist.

If the price were right the machine as shown is in excellent condition and you should consider purchasing
it just to learn to run a machine like that.

Whats he asking for it? 3P is easily solved (guessing the 420 is 50Hz), a common 120/480 transformer and a VFD. Original motor is better balance imo than a replacement is likely to be. I know where you've been going.....keep your wits about you lol

It has a moderate amount of tooling for a turret lathe. Every accessory imaginable in Schaublin land is serious talk, there are dozens of weird things they made over the years!

Turret 70s and 102s are not particularly valuable, especially with the F collet heads like that one. Like has been said, if you foresee a lot of turret-friendly work, it might be nice (you could crank out a crapload of clock bushings for example), but otherwise unless it's a screaming deal it won't be very useful unless you want to spend a lot of money and time (years) finding useful tooling for it.

I can totally concur the above statement. Been there and done it with the 70TR and 102TR (the 102TR I paid just US$400.00 for) ... you can wait ages for tooling and the F collets are not the best choice either. Save your money and find a Schaublin 70 or 102 with W collets.
