Once you find a good plater that can handle most of you needs hold on to them. I have one now and i dont have to worry.

    Jason,
My trick to get good plating was to walk into the shop find out who did the plating I was needing show them one of my parts, hand them a $50.00 bill & say do my parts right & I will be back for more. Sucked but it worked.

The only reason you have "become the free taxi service" is because you have allowed yourself to be that. Nowhere else to lay that blame.

The costs for UPS or Fedex service is dirt cheap compared to your time.

Utilizing either of those two services will have you staying put in the shop just as you wish, making money, both in time saved on the road, and the markup for the outside service. It is a win-win for sure.

    Russ good points

I made the mistake when I started of being basically too flexible, and most of the time if I did deliver/retrieve from the processor I had enough margin built in where I wasn't bothered. On the other hand I do end up getting abused somewhat, of course entriely my own fault, agreed.

I've learnt not to complain (at least to customers)if I feel I get the short end of the stick, most of the time it's my fault, plus they don't want to hear it, legitimate or not.

I agree I need to get compensated, it's hard to get some customers to agree to pay.

Not when I take 200-300 parts to be anodized , a mixture of 6061/7075/ TypeII/TypeIII anodizing, just the packing alone would take me longer than the drive there and back.
