Having actually raced, and owned and been around actual race teams - yes, don't call yourself something "Racing" unless you really belong in that SIC, and sometimes don't call yourself that even if you do. (And I assert it's not "retarded" or "overdone" when the entity in question is, in fact, a race team.)

Oh, and I thought "Lab" was vague enough, but calling yourself "Joe's Lab" will cause authors of various guides (yellow pages, manta, etc) to call you up, ask "are you a dental lab or medical lab" and give a spiel about a free listing. This results in my making a threat to sue them if they list me. It also causes insurance companies and building permit officials to ask all sorts of inane questions about contain of poisons and biological materials.

So, Joe's Vague Services LLC, or "GrukFreebleBlaz LLC" might be better names. Or make up impossible person names search carefully for collsions, and then call yourself, say "Norzang, Phelucks, and Klenbody".

There are times when I think the name of my company should be "Unmitigated Disasters".

A few years ago we were doing a bunch of camera control robot development, based out of my friend's (pro grade) garage shop. We needed to create an entity for this purpose and decided to call it Zemun Laboratories, after the dubious suburb of Belgrade that my friend is from. This is where we first ran into the "McMaster isn't allowing new accounts in Canada" problem but I realized that with a name like that you were likely to run into all sorts of trouble with customs, the DEA and every other institutional security outfit as well. The funny thing about McMaster is around the same time we started buying a large amount of equipment for an institutional shop upgrade, and the funding agency which for complex reasons was buying the gear itself, got an McMaster account with no difficulty. Needless to say the funding agency has a pretty institutional sounding name. Best to keep it not too foreign sounding....

No billet aircraft parts, but forming the "Pro Zombie Crime Crew Tactical Defense Tools" company should be fine.

Based on a comment from an insurance dweeb,
I recently took every 'design' and 'engineering' and 'welding' word off my website.
And removed some part pictures as well.
And I removed reference to the square footage of my shop, materials machined, and some other things that the insurance fucknutz seem to 'need' to refer to, to create a sense of panic and disqualification in their pasty white profit grabbing fucked up world. Pretty soon my site will be one page:company name and phone number. I guess that makes it simpler in the end.
Any I was -wondering- why my local competitors do not have web sites.....

maybe 15 years ago I filled out some mail in card "John's radioactive waste dump" not only to be a wise guy but to see where that showed up, sure enough junk mail started showing up with that name on it. Now days I would probably get raided.
There is a parachute maker named something to the effect of " the un insured skydiving equipment maker and you can die company" . ie, dont sue us.

I heard the "Executive Outcomes LLC" got a 20% reduction in their insurance rates when they changed the corporate name from "Kill Them All and Let God Sort 'Em Out LLC"
