Default Cinci.#2 T&C Grinder Table Balls

Just purchased a Cincinnati # 2 T&C grinder. The cross slide is not moving easily, so upon disassembly I found a table ball bearing missing? I don't think it fell out on the shop floor! Have not got to the problem of the binding cross slide yet. Does anyone know of a supplier for these balls? Should all of them be replaced to maintain a consistent size, and what quality and type (chrome, stainless) of ball? Thanks in advance, Steve

Nothing worse then losing your balls.....I think they are just standard 5/8 ball bearings..

Default Bearings

Mcmaster Carr, motion industries and etc. Class 25 or better yet class 10 bearing balls (52100 chrome steel). Buy a full set, they are really cheap.

Lightly stone the bearing tracks with fine india oil stone... use a new stone. Clean everything off well and assy dry.

Never move the machine without removing the balls and cages, otherwise you risk brinell damage to the ball tracks.

When I've had to move my machines I take the weight off the table, push the bearings and cages out one side with a long delrin rod the same diam as the balls. The macine then rides with the delrin in place.

Thanks for the info. gentlemen. I am in the process of tearing this machine down for paint and restoration and greatly appreciate any professional advice. Will try to take some pics of the before and after to post. It does suck to loose your balls especially when you've already lost your as#!

JH, Thanks so much for the manual link. You saved me from puchasing one off ebay ($50.00). It will come in handy for the rebuild!

Default measure your balls

Steve,

If I may ad, it will serve you well to measure the balls you purchase and make yourself a closely matched set for the machine. I realize they are sold by a class, like any bearing, but don't feel bad if you have to purchase 100 and then measure out for ones you like.

A little bench work and a Sharpie never hurt anyone. It's time well spent being anal about this part of the machine.

Gus

Gus, Good advise. I have 50 to choose from (just received them from McMaster Carr), the table rides on 40. I'll see how they check out, may have to order more. Thanks, Steve
