Monarch 612 Tool Porn
I saw this photo and a 6-1/2 minute video on the website for Machinery Consultants, Inc. in Salt Lake City. This is supposedly a 17" x 36" Model 612.

I know that some members here have some strong opinions about this dealer and I haven't bought anything from them, alhough I did visit them several years ago.
They do seem to paint most of their machines which can be a mixed blessing.
However, the videos that they make show details about many of their machines that I would otherwise never know.

At least they took the time to do a good paint job. Would love to have that little machine!

Thats not a toolroom lathe is it? Not like a 10ee or 1000ee?
Nice size though. How much does it weigh?

I would guess the weight between 8,000 and 10,000 lbs.
Heck of a machine if you really need to make a lot of chips - but still has the ablity to do toolroom work.
Less complex than the EE series of lathe.

Dude doesn't get full engagement while changing speeds and he grinds the gears at 4:43 in the video.

Just saw that same lathe go at auction for $2,000. It was in at least as good of condition as that one, but it didn't have the suspect paint job. It came from the laboratories here in town. Russ actually considered buying it and just putting it into storage until he can get the space for it. It was a beautiful machine. I would've bid, but it was just too much machine for me.

Supposedly, there are supposed to be more machines coming out as the shops at the labs close down. I think a lot of it is really big stuff, though. GIGANTIC. It'll be interesting to see what comes out. Is there anything in particular you're looking for? On the other hand, maybe you should save some of the good iron for other guys! Your shop is certainly the envy of anyone that appreciates quality machine tools.
