Taking spindle out and cleaning everything up . I need to know if the bearing caps have a felt inner and outer gasket that goes in the grooves on the bearing caps ? I have a rebuild kit but here are no instructions with it . When I pulled the caps off there were no felts on either front or back caps. I know it has been apart before I bought it , the rear bearing looks new still . Thanks! Mark

No, the grooves are there to redirect any surplus oil back into the reservoir. The only felt in the headstock are the spring loaded oilers under the spindle.

Ok ! Thanks , I was thinking there had to be something there to keep out chips and other trash . Thanks for the reply. Mark

The expanders have (or at least are supposed to) small pieces of felt in their centers. They are there to retain and redistribute some of the oil. They usually "dissapear" after the first attempt at adjusting the bearings and expanders by someone who doesn't know how to do it.
