Find this on CL, he wants $6700 and firm! 8' between centers and is suppose to be like new. Is it over priced? No affiliation with this just wondering if they can really go for this much?

Did SB make this model in 1981, He claims that. I was surprised but, I don't know south bend lineage very good.

Yes, I believe they did. I've owned a couple of these 16/24's and one of them that I parted out several years ago was an early 80's model.

I currently own another 16/24 that is an early 70's model and is in excellent condition. I've advertised it a couple times at $3200, and can't get it to sell. I've had some interest, but no takers. And this is a lathe with V-ways that are literally like new and also some other new parts that I installed when cleaning it up.
So yes, his price of $6700 is a dream.
These are obviously not a real 24" swing lathe. I beleive even the South Bend literature mentions that these are for light duty large diameter work like pulleys, wheels, etc.
