9" Workshop lathe safety guards, when were those first available?

The 9" Model A I'm refurbishing was made circa 1967 but has no belt guards. I've seen pics of older years of this model with a solid motor belt guard and a large 'clamshell' above the spindle belt, plus what looks like a stamped sheet metal lower guard held on by the screws that hold the front ends of the two gear guards.

When did those full guards first become available? Were they ever standard equipment or were they only ever an optional extra?

I think those fiberglass covers only started showing up in the 1960s. And they were available separately through the catalog. The 1968 9A I have, also came with it. Also, the lower piece of the guard that is bolted to the headstock is made from aluminum, not stamped sheet steel.
