9A Cross Slide Mystery Holes

Does anybody know what the two threaded holes on the top of my cross slide might be for? I’ve noticed that a lot of cross slides I’ve seen don’t have them, but some do. I don’t have a good picture of mine at the moment, but I found a good picture of one with the same holes. Any insight would be greatly appreciated! -Keith

If I recall correctly they are used to stabilize the milling attachment...

Thanks! Would that be the South Bend version of the milling attachment? I’m assuming the holes are added by the owner since mine seem to be a little uneven.

SB provided a little drawing showing where the holes were to be placed.

Those two holes are in the wrong location for a South Bend milling attachment.
