The other day the boss overheard me talking about my 1931 SB Jr. and 3 other South Bends I saw at a nearby auction. I was there to buy 6 double door cabinets.
Anyway I had mentioned my lathe is now 87 years old. We have a South Bend and a Logan sitting in the corner doing nothing. The boss says so which lathe is older mine or the shop one. I said mine and told him the shop one is from the 50's or 60's.
Shop lathe: Catalog 670A S/N 28329KAR7. Model A, Light 10 with Quick Change Gear and friction feed apron. Horizontal drive with regular spindle hole 11/16", Standard swing. Didn't really understand what the 7 means.
I came up with a date of 1951/52, correct??
Thanks,
RF
So the 3 auction SB's were very dirty but well tooled: Model A CL670A with cabinet, Model A CL3137AB with cabinet: both sold around $700. Model A CL155 with a 12" bed S/N 8868HKX12 with 2 Phase motor, yes 2. Sold for $300.00 Several Bridgeports were also 2 Phase.
