carriage handwheel on the right?

saw this one today
seller states it is a south bend
all the pictures i have seen have the handwheel on the left
did southbend make any with the handwheel on the right?

Yes Southbend gap bed lathes had the hand-wheel on the right and cross-slide on the left of the carriage instead of centred, just like your picture.
 
Could it be that sb equiped the bigger lathes meant for export to continental Europe with this apron even if there was no gap?

This lathe is 80+ years old- anything was possible. Why don't you ask the seller instead of asking us :)

on edit- its obviously a gap bed. look at how deep the bed casting is where the left leg connects, then look at your first picture- you can see the upward sweep of the bed casting- only gap beds did that.
