Google Books has Popular Science available online all the way back to it's inception in the 19th century. The December 1947 issue has about a 20 page ad devoted to South Bend. People who deride the South Bend as a "hobby lathe" will see that it could be equipped to do a tremendous variety of work. Enjoy!
