Digital Tachometer install on 13" South Bend Lathe

Nothing groundbreaking or special, just a simple Hall Effect sensor tachometer from ebay.

I used some steel stock to make the mounting bracket and upright.
The main bracket fastens to the empty threaded hole in the head stock.

The sensor’s positioning apparatus is cobbled together with some random, but nice photography accessories I’ve been waiting years to use on something.

The readout is housed in a little aluminum project box. It’s (mis)alignment will be revisited when I mount a remote speed control potentiometer to it’s left.

I’m not yet sure how I will affix the neodymium magnet to the end of the spindle.

Thanks

Hall effect sensor might not be the best choice as the magnet will sooner or later attract steel particles and shavings. Optical might be better.

That is something I didn't even think about, but a valid possibility no doubt. I'll have to see how it goes. Thanks.
