flex chuck for Heavy 10

I just found the Jacobs lit from 1954
#91-F1 Threaded for spindle threads under 2"
#91-A6 Threaded for spindle threads over 2 1/16"
My American lathe had a Jacobs # 100 chuck that used a drill key just like a drill chuck...Bob

T411:

What is the spindle nose on your 1989 ( must be nice - my SB,s are 1913, 1920 and 1923 ! ) ?

Is it threaded 2 1/4 - 8, D1-4 camlock or LOO long taper key lock ?

Excuse my ignorance but I’m not a machinist, I was told it is D1-4 cam lock but I do not know if is an “extension”. It looks like it is but I do not know how to take it off. I stole this lathe for a great price but it got damaged when it shipped to me. I have to replace some parts on it but overall even with the parts that I have to replace I got I still got a great deal.

The D1-4" spindle nose was standard on the (heavy) 10, 13 and 16 inch South Bend lathes by 1979. Other spindle noses (threaded and long taper) were listed as options. Safe to say yours is a D1-4"
