Hi everyone, Been busy refurbishing my recently purchased heavy10, at least a couple hundred hours into it by now. This past weekend finally got around to opening up the headstock, following the procedure in parts manual. I removed the left bearing cap and saw the bearing expander SITTING ON TOP of the slot in the bronze sleeve  Of course the sleeve and the expander are a bit mangled, but im thinking I may be able to salvage them with a little carefull file work. I don't know how long the lathe was run in this condition by the previous owner so it might be that the I.D. of the sleeves are worn. Thoughts anyone? I'd post pics, but I don"t get the whole URL thing.

I don't see why it matters. Just slide it back into its proper place and get back to the refurbishment. The expander simply expands the bearing, it doesn't need to be especially precise. THe only issue I can see is that with the expander on top there was no felt oiler on the top of the bearing to help with lubrication.
