Hello,
I have a "self made" attempt at a carriage lock and I am trying to see if it is operating correctly.
I looked at this thread and either I don't have it right or one of the dimensions is off.
http://www.practicalmachinist.com/vb/south-bend-lathes/carriage-lock-225245/?highlight=carriage+lock
Should the very back of the carriage lock contact the machined portion of the apron? or fit inside to the rough part? If it is supposed to contact the machined portion, then I believe the depth from the heal to the locking flat should be 0.5" not 0.625" as in the sketch(at least on my heavy 10 anyway). At 5/8" it wouldn't allow the shoe contact the bottom of the bed.
In addition, the one measure measurement missing from the drawing is the distance from the center of the hole to the edge that parallels the bed face. I think mine is too far away as it rotates before it jams and starts to tighten. I believe it should be 0.3375" ( (3/8dia.)/2 + 0.150).
I would appreciate any help from someone who has the genuine article.
Thank You
