Recently acquired this lathe--ser# 128160DWW. Double lever quickchange, 1 3/8 spindle hole, taper attchment.

It is mounted on one of the metal cabinet bases--with wood drawers, and the round tubular legs. Because of the 4' bed length, this cabinet base, although it looks very similar is not the same as the one in the standard SB pictures--it is longer to accommodate the extra bed length, and the horizontal cross bar, joining the motor compartment and the section with the drawers, is mounted lower than the SB picture one. Serial indicates it is a 1942.

Two questions.

First, how rare is this combination? Essentially, the longer length cabinet could be accommodated with just a different chip pan pressing.

Second- the empty space between the motor cabinet and the drawer unit has evidence of having a door at one time--hinges on right, catch on left. But there is no evidence of a shelf ever being there, and nothing around the edges (aside from the front bar) to support a shelf. Doesn't make sense for either factory, or subsequent owner to put a door there??

Filthy, but fastening an indicator to the carriage, and indicating the planned area between the two front ways shows very little wear.
