Yes, I know this will seem absolutely basic...but...my tailstock quill does not have the recess for a tang. It is Mt2 and that is it. So how in the world do I get a drill chuck that won't start rotating when I want to drill a hole in a piece of metal?

This is for a 1928 9" Model O.

Thank you.

A correctly fitting Morse taper does not need a tang, the friction is normally enough to transmit the torque. Get a standard drill chuck with mt armour and saw off the tang with abrasive saw so it fits your quill.

Mine also had problems gripping. I borrowed an MT2 reamer to clean it up and the problem stopped. The quill has to be extended a bit so the tang oesn't hit the screw though.
