I purchased a 9a off of craigslist for $600 and came with a ton of tools. A whole box of carbide tools, a box of HSS tools, a box of milling bits, a huge box of taper drill bits, 10 tail stock chucks, a steady rest, two follow rests, and a bunch of other stuff. I'm not a machinist, I'm a retired truck driver who is trying to learn new things. That being said, it came with some tools that I don't know what they are. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Michael, welcome to the forum. The black colored apparatus looks to be some form of adjustable stage for an optical device. I don't think it was meant to be used on your lathe necessarily. Take some pictures of your haul, sounds like you did all right. Jim

You sure got a lot of stuff for your $600.00, that milling attachment is worth about $300.00 I would say.....
