Is it possible to use a lathe as a mill as well. Is there any kits that can help convert it. I am new to the lathe seen so this may be a dumb question? If it is possible any info is appreciated
Yes it is. I had a tee slot cross slide made just for that purpose. The Home Shop Machinist had a detailed article about milling in the lathe. I made a draw bar to go thru my headstock that holds a #3MT x 1/2" milling cutter arbor. I then milled a square toolpost, shimming with steel to get the desired cut. Works great. You can see all the pics of the drawbar and tool post at my yahoo group. You can also use the tool block with a cutter installed in a 4 jaw chuck and make a big fly cutter. I have some angle plates on the back burner to mill soon this way...Bob http://groups.yahoo.com/group/southbend10k/
