metric/imperial inserts

Hi Everyone,

Is there a difference between a metric (60deg)carbide insert and an imperial (e.g. Nat coarse) carbide insert? I have always used HSS for threading but would like to try carbide.

If it's a general-purpose "V" point as are most on-edge style inserts, 60 degrees is 60 degrees. Most laydown inserts, however, are "topping" which means they cut the specific root width and shave the crest. Those do one pitch only but they'll do it on any diameter.
