Modifying a 10" steady rest to fit a 9-A

I was given a steady rest and follower rest several years ago that were for a 10" South Bend. At the time I was using the steady on my Sears Atlas 12" by using spacer blocks. I have since upgraded to a 9-A and at first tried to trade for the proper ones with no success. So the beauty of having a machine shop, is that you can always do a modification. The only casualty was a busted ear where the top portion hinges to the bottom which was easily fixed by brazing.

You can probably adapt the follower rest by making a plate.

I'm in the same boat, myself. Only sans follower rest at the moment. My thoughts were to stick a center in the spindle as a center line reference and measure to the centers of the mounting holes on the saddle. With that value known and the distance from the approximate center line of the work going through the rest to the mounting holes on the rest, that should be enough info to make an adapter.
