Default Never before seen: a 10L single lever tumbler gear BEFORE being destroyed by use

    Hey guys-

I finally got around to learning how to cut a gear (had to buy a mill and tool up first!) and proudly decided upon the Achilles heal of a Heavy 10 single lever gearbox.

Nicely done. Now it looks like you have to buy a shaper. At least 'tooling up' will be straightforward.

No shaper for me! I'll broach out the key way.

Hah. Nice one. I am on a similar journey myself. I'll get there soon...ish. The single tumbler gear box will likely get some gear love at some stage too. :-)

What material did you use for the new gear?

I just used 1018 to prove I could do it. I don't really know what a good material would be for this gear or others.
