removing the lead screw nut

just keep om wiggling and tapping lightly
good sign: hard to get out = probably little normal wear

you know there is a screw straight under the lever at the underside of the carriage you must take out?
there ought to be a spring and a pin behind the screw that must come out

Which lead screw nut are you talking about?
The compound, cross feed, or the nuts holding the threading leadscrew into the gear box?

Wrap the unthreaded part of the leadscrew in something soft like brass or aluminum shim stock, and grip that with locking pliers. Then you should be able to turn the nut with a wrench.

Are you disassembling the whole machine or just taking off the leadscrew?
If the former then take off the gearbox with the leadscrew attached.

On my 9" machine there were two thin nuts jammed together.
It was very hard to get at them with the gearbox still on the bed, and I ended up just taking it off so I could flip it over.
Once I did that it was easy to get wrenches on both of them.

Much easier I think.
