In reviewing the 1960 SB catalog: http://vintagemachinery.org/pubs/1617/3806.pdf (Page 54) I noticed that SB offered the lever activated spindle brake option as factory installed, buyer installed, and with or without the micro switch intended to cut power to the motor, but they didn’t offer just the micro switch itself.
Removing the bull gear cover on my spindle brake equipped 13”, I discovered no apparent signs of a micro switch. If there was one installed at sometime in the past I don’t know.
My question: As offered without the micro switch provision, was the idea of the stand alone brake to simply friction slow/stop the spindle and allow the belt to slip, or is there another purpose altogether for the brake, like to aid in chuck removal or ease of collect use, or something I am completely unaware of?
Thanks
