South Bend 13 Taper Attachment Chip Guard

I'm trying to find out what the total length is on the Taper Attachment Chip Guard for a 13 inch South Bend Lathe. It's a thin piece that covers up the slot in the connecting bar on the taper attachment. I want to make one for my lathe.

If someone hasn't responded by the end of the day I can measure mine when I get home tonight.

I have found that guard to be a pain to deal with. Mine is bent in places (came to me that way) and I'm toying with the idea of just removing it. Most pictures I see of SB lathes with taper attachments don't have the cover, probably for the same reasons I don't like it.
