I've found a couple different charts but none that seem to be for my lathe an the tag on my lathe don't say anything about the compound gear. What's it used for, I'd like to find the diagram for the gear train an feed rates for the different gears .. I'm new to all this so hopefully I'm saying this the right way thanks for any advice 20171106_005729.jpg20171106_005756.jpg20171106_005739.jpg

Simple.

Definitions first: In your pic of the gear train on the machine:

Stud gear: The tiny gear in the middle behind the big nut.
Screw gear: The big gear at the end of the train, in line with the lead screw.

The chart shows which gears go in which place to yield the desired pitch.

Simply remove the gear that's on the stud and replace it with the chart specified gear.
Same for the screw gear.

Run a bit of bar as though you were cutting a thread but mark the bar with a Sharpie that you hold on the tool post. This will let you verify the pitch.
