    Default 1942 Heavy 10

I don't have a photo of what it looked like when I first set it in the garage, but there is one after I started digging to find out what might be wrong with it. Since the bearing caps on this old 10L are so much easier to cope with than the newer ones with the split bearings, I pulled the spindle and I'm glad I did. The thrust bearing was missing balls. I wound up tearing it all the way down and painting it. I had to make an adapter for the new thrust bearing and I have to make a new shaft for the sliding gear and I'm working on putting turcite on the saddle ways, but it works as is until I get those things done. Here's a couple before and a couple of after.

I recently acquired this 11-A lathe, I've read that it's a pretty rare lathe that was only made for a couple of years. Does anyone have anymore information on it? 11" swing 4' bed, catalog #8111A

Just bought mine a few weeks ago at an auction seems to be all there except the guts to the tail stock so I will need to find that hopefully a fellow member has that piece they are willing to part with.
I am sure I will have questions during my restoration so thank you in advance for the help.

Here is the only machine I have ever personally owned. I spent 24 years as an Air Force Machinist so never had the urge to purchase anything until I retired and no longer had access to all that fancy equipment. Well this one isnt too fancy but it will get the job done I hope. Bought it last week at an estate sale. Anything that looked machinist related including dial indicators I put on the table and the guy sold it all to me LOL including the one drill bit in the tail stock. I give $450 what do yall think seemed fair to me?

    Default My New2Me GS26-075

    Hello
My name is Mickey and this a great thread and I thought I would let everyone see my not so heavy 10,LOL.This was a fantastic Craigslist purchase, got the machine and a boatload of tooling after watching for a Heavy 10 in my area for a few years, although not specifically the machine I was looking for it was way too good to let it go,and it was only a 12 hour round trip.Been searching for any and all information I can find on these machines,I believe it is circa 1990's,although not sure?
Grizzly,Leblond, has been no help.Latheman Ted has been great on info and had a fantastic manual, and metric transposing gear set for me,also AMW(Mal)has been a big help with a few parts, such as a steady and follow rest.Decent later model machine,WILL start a complete teardown and restoration this spring.img_1409.jpgimg_1410.jpgimg_1413.jpgimg_1414.jpgimg_1415.jpg

New here. This is my Junior 9, acquired last August from a guy in Orlando. It is stuffed into my laboratory (closet sized) with all my other projects until I can relocate it to the shed at my man cave. After removing seventy years or so of accumulated gunk the lathe cleaned up pretty well and has much of its original paint. The motor mount is a bit hillbilly, but it works fine. The backplate for the three jaw chuck is stuck on the spindle (i'm guessing it hasn't been removed since before WWII) bit I am still able to use 3C collets. Tuning it up as I go but it has been accurate enough for what I do so far.....
