    Default Thrust bearing

My 13 inch south bend stopped yesterday. After taking apart the headstock I found that a thrust bearing had come apart and was loosing ball bearings.
I have done some research and find that the thrust bearing is not a standard size and Grizzley does not have the one I need.
Does anyone have any ideas of where to find one? I have looked at the past postings but the only ones that deal with thrust bearings are smaller lathes and the bearings are different size.

the bearings need to fit on a 1 11/16" shaft and are only 1/2" thick

I think I better take out the camera and start taking a few pictures.

Check out INA and Torrington bearings, may be able to find a close match.

Here is the link to INA. They call them axial ball bearings deep groove.

    Rolling and plain bearings, accessories

    Here is timken/torrington

    http://www.timken.com/en-us/products...s/default.aspx

Once you find the part number goto a local bearing distributor and ask them to order it.

I used a Torrinton Thrust Needle Roller/Cage assembly on my 1941 Southbend 13

    Here is a possible set:

    P/N
NTA-2840 caged roller assembly ID 1.750 OD 2.500 width .0781

TRA-2840 hardened thrust washer ID 1.750 OD 2.500 width .030/.032
TRB-2840 hardened thrust washer ID 1.750 OD 2.500 width .060/.063
TRC-2840 hardened thrust washer ID 1.750 OD 2.500 width .092/.095
TRD-2840 hardened thrust washer ID 1.750 OD 2.500 width .123/.126
TRF-2840 hardened thrust washer ID 1.750 OD 2.500 width .185/.188

The width of the roller assembly and (2) TRF-2840 washers is about .494".
You will need a thinwall sleeve.
Or for an easier sleeve solution look at a bearing with a larger nominal bore diameter such as:
    NTA-3244 with washers TRA-3244.
    Bore OD
    2.000 2.750

All the other widths are the same as what I listed for the other bearing. Choose the bearing and then mix and match widths of washers for the overall thickness.

    Regards,
    John

The original reddish-orange fiber type thrust washer cracked and broke up on my 13" Southbend from 1941.
I replaced it with a Torrington thrust bearing and the two thrust washers. The washers are hardened and are the raceway for the rollers. I did this about fifteen years ago.
